Eating Out

Birthday at Sushisamba

So today was my birthday!! I’m someone who actually really enjoys celebrating birthdays (especially mine) which is a running joke with my family. This year I turned 22. So what did I do to celebrate? Well, fun but weird fact- I actually share my birthday with my boyfriend… I know what are the chances? And we’re both the same age. So for the last couple of birthdays we’ve shared it and this year was just the same.

Now, anyone that knows me will know I’m a huge sushi fan, and I’ve been wanting to try Sushisamba out for ages but booking there can be pretty difficult as it’s hugely popular. This year, however, we found they had availability on our birthday (!) so decided to treat ourselves and book there for lunch!

Zooming up in the lift to something like the 29th floor we arrived at Sushisamba and were escorted to our table which was right by the window with spectacular views over London. We definitely landed one of the best tables in the house (if you go and it doesn’t seem busy definitely try and ask for a table by the window- it makes the experience all the more special!)

Not knowing how to go about choosing off the menu, but certain we wanted some sushi, we asked for recommendations and were told to order between 5-6 plates. The food is a mixture between South American and Japanese cuisine and some dishes also cross between the two. We ordered some lobster crispy taquitos which came first, followed by various sushi plates (I can’t remember all the names) but I’m pretty sure some we ordered were the samba London rolls, Ezo rolls and Yoyogi rolls. It was honestly some of the best sushi I’ve had and the presentation of it is also really special. I was even struggling to finish all the sushi, which for me when it comes to sushi is usually unheard of! So don’t worry about getting tiny portions while paying a lot- we found it was pretty reasonable and definitely filling! The cocktails are also pretty spectacular and we saw lots being served at tables around us, but decided we wouldn’t get one as being students we’re not completely able to splash the cash on everything. But I would recommend trying the cocktails if you get the chance and don’t mind spending a bit more as they looked amazing!

It’s fair to say I was not disappointed by Sushisamba and will definitely be returning as soon as I can. The sushi was phenomenal and being able to enjoy food up high above London with gorgeous views is always a treat and makes for a really unique experience.
