One for the weekend. I wanted something refreshing as a breakfast alternative and the weather recently has been quite humid and muggy. So I scoured the shelves in the larder and fridge and threw together a combination which became this luscious apple, matcha and almond milkshake.
It’s a delicious cool blend of ingredients that you wouldn’t necessarily think would go but it’s definitely one I’ll be making again.
Matcha is a newly popular ingredient, usually in the form of a green powder, that is appearing in more and more places and used in lots of different ways. For example, you can get matcha lattes, smoothies, pancakes, ice cream, cakes and even bread and pastries. I definitely need to try out some of these wacky ways of using it, and I’m quite intrigued by matcha ice cream… watch this space!
Apple, matcha and almond milkshake
1 small apple, chopped
A few strawberries
1 small banana
Small handful of spinach chopped
1 tsp honey
1 cup almond milk
1 tsp of Greek yoghurt
1 heaped tsp of matcha powder
1-2 ice cubes
Small dollop of Greek yoghurt
Sprinkling of chia seeds
Blitz up the ingredients in a smoothie maker or NutriBullet. Top with the toppings and enjoy!
